William George Linge
1883-1944

William George Linge born 25 March 1883 in Hornsey London UK, to George and Lucy Mary Linge nee (Smith). George is believed to have Left home when he was young man and this is all he would say to his sons when they were growing up, he told them he left home because of his mother and sister? On checking the 1881 census I found he had three older sisters than him.
On Leaving home we believe he went to Wales, but we do not know what part. William George joined the Army on 10th March 1902 (from a copy of his Army papers). On 10th March 1903 William George was posted to India and returned 23rd December 1908 (from a copy of his Army papers). William George then emigrated to Canada with we believe a blind man as a companion/medic (medical training in India with the British Army) on arrival in Canada the blind man died. So William George is to believed to have joined the Canadian Army but left shortly afterwards (this is not confirmed), it is believed he them went to work with a lumber jack firm as a medic (not confirmed). Before 1914 William George joined the Canadian Highlanders (Black Watch) and returned to England as part of the Canadian Expeditionary Force.
When William George came to England in 1914 he meet up with his pen pal Harriet Ann Gynes and they got married in Farrington, Lancashire, UK. William George was stationed in France and was gassed and wounded at St Julian's gate (battle field?), he was returned to England to convalensce at Bexhill? Due to his wounds and Harriet's ill Heath there were unable to return to Canada so they settled in England, they had four sons and one daughter, William George died in 1944 on Canvey Island, Essex, UK and Harriet died in 1955 also on Canvey Island, Essex, UK.
